Guests at the Magic Kingdom were surprised this morning with a brand new sign leading from The Hub to Tomorrowland! You'll recall that in July, the Steam-Punk sign that had served as the entrance to the futuristic land since the 90s was quietly removed.
The new sign is a sleek, modern and simplistic design that evokes the next phase of Tomorrowland. You'll recall over the last two years, we've seen quiet changes happening, from a new mid-century paint job on Carousel of Progress, to the boulders receiving an other-worldly blue makeover... Most recently, Monsters Inc Laugh Floor received a new sign that resembles the old Mission to Mars sign!
With the addition of Tron Lightcycle Power Run by 2021, I think it's safe to say that Tomorrowland is not done with the makeover! I personally see a shift to a 1960's futuristic style slowly emerging, with the specific aesthetic of the famed 1964 World's Fair. You'll recall that Carousel of Progress, the beloved Tomorrowland attraction, was originally premiered at that event. It seems Disney is slowly shifting from their previous Steam-Punk themed land to the one of 1960's retro-futurism.
So what do you think of this new sign? As Walt himself said, Disney(land) will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.
