Port Orleans Riverside has long been one of my family’s favorite Walt Disney World resorts. I often am asked by friends and clients why we enjoy Riverside so much, so I thought I would share with you all some of the reasons.
As you arrive at Port Orleans you will immediately find yourself surrounded by the spirit of New Orleans and Lousiana Bayou theming. The resort is divided into two distinct areas. The first is Alligator Bayou. Guests will find rustic rooms and lush foliage in this part of the resort. One great perk of these rooms and another reason my family likes these rooms is that you can find rooms that will accommodate five people by using the murphy bed. On the other side of the Sassagoula River, you will find Magnolia Bend with its manicured lawns, gardens, and mansion facades. You can even stay in a Royal Room with a princess theme and “fireworks” lighting up the headboard!
Another great thing about Riverside is the amazing dining options! Boatwright’s Dining Hall is a popular table service restaurant, the River Roast Lounge (maybe even join a sing along with Yee-Haw Bob), and the Riverside Mill Food Court. The Riverside Mill Food Court is my family’s favorite food court of all the resorts. There is a wide variety of food, but our favorite is the create your own pasta bar where you can choose what kind of pasta, meats, vegetables, and sauce you’d like! My personal favorite creation is the penne pasta with onions, sun-dried tomatoes, broccoli, chicken, and marinara sauce served with fresh breadsticks!
When not at the parks there is plenty to do too! To cool off head to ‘Ol Man Island for some pool-time. Don’t feel like swimming? Head to the playground, hang out at the arcade, rent a surrey bicycle, or even take a carriage ride! For those with 4-12-year-olds, they can also join the pirate adventures on the Islands of the Caribbean Pirate Cruise!Another great reason our family loves our stays at POR are the water taxis. You can take this convenient and quaint transportation to Disney Springs, as well as taking a quick boat ride to Riverside’s sister resort, Port Orleans – French Quarter. Be sure the kids wear their swimsuits because they can enjoy the pool there as well, taking a ride down the serpentine waterslide! French Quarter also has a splash park for your little-bitties.
Overall, Port Orleans Riverside offers a relaxing atmosphere with great family activities and dining options, and will add more magic to your Walt Disney World vacation!
